Longreach in Queensland’s far west is the heart of a huge grazing region as well as being a popular destination for organized tours and campervan and motorhome holidaymakers wanting to explore Australia’s great outback. The city lies at the junction of the Landsborough and Capricorn Highways and is a rail head for the transportation of livestock and other agricultural products. Surrounding towns like Barcaldine, Winton and Mt Isa are steeped in Australia’s early history and there are many country pubs and places of interest to call in at and enjoy. Many tourists visit Longreach each year and they come to see the unique tourist attractions that have become established here. The Stockmans Hall of Fame is the most famous and this is a must see attraction. It tells the story of the hardships and history of the early development of the region and gives you an insight into the quality of life that was experienced by the early settlers. The Qantas aviation museum is also here right at the company’s birth place. Many tourist coaches travelling through the region overnight here so if you are looking for some motel style accommodation it is wise to book well ahead.
